![]() Although, this superb characterization is mostly due to the fact that the series is laser focused on 2-3 characters, usually, in contrast to other novels where they sport a wide cast of main characters- and as a result dilute the limited characterization among them. Secondly, the characterization in this series is magnificent to say the least. Also, I absolutely loved how the novels were exceedingly realistic on how the relationship between a merchant who boasted a meager 25 years of life and a wise wolf who had been alive for centuries would play out. Just as Hasekura warmed up to the prospect of Spice and Wolf transitioning into an adventure/romance genre instead of a pure adventure archetype, my own interest in the novel grew from originally only being in the economics to the interesting relationship between Lawrence and Holo, the wise wolf of Yoitsu. Moreover, if I am not mistaken Isuna Hasekura set out originally to capture Lawrence's escapades as a merchant purely from an economic standpoint. As a result, The Town of Strife arc stood out to me as the maneuvering done by Lawrence was quite magnificent to say the least. I have always been enthralled with economics, to some degree, so the books naturally captured my attention and jumped out to me. So why have I become so enthralled with this series? I could sit here all day listing reasons, and I probably will, because I have nothing better to do.įirst and foremost, the subject material of the novel is what originally drew me in and made this series worthwhile to read. From a purely objective stance, Spice and Wolf is not written as well, as rich, or as powerful as them however, Spice and Wolf as a series has brought me more enjoyment than any of the aforementioned and, and in doing so, has captured my heart. So you might be wondering why I have lathered so much praise upon these works here that have literally nothing to do with Spice and Wolf. Each of the aforementioned books are littered with foreshadowing, symbols, and parallels- these qualities are what vest and capture my enjoyment/interest in them. Prior to reading the Spice and Wolf light novel series the following books made up my top 3 works of all time: The Great Gatsby, Crime and Punishment, and Richard 3. To start off, I am a reader who prides himself on liking and choosing novels that contain a deeper meaning throughout and are rarely taken at face value. ![]() This is a Reddit rule and is just common sense.įair warning: This review will be quite long with a meager TLDR Do no mention pirated material, do not link it.
